As the U.S.’s leading gold company, Newmont also produces copper, lead, silver, and zinc throughout its mines in Africa, Australia, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, and Papua New Guinea. Its acquisitions of rivals Newcrest and Goldcorp in 2023 and 2019, respectively, each broke the record for the largest deal in the history of the gold mining sector to date. As of April 2025, Newmont confirmed its completion of a divestiture of noncore operations amounting to $3.8 billion in total gross proceeds. These included operations in Ghana, Canada, and Colorado. Newmont was founded in 1921 and has been publicly traded since 1925.
